Commemorating Freedom and Joy with LIMES Art Collection

Limes Art Collection - Achim Ripperger, Merino Pacheco

LIMES Art collection represents the artistic collection of the LIMES Schlossklinik Gruppe, an exclusive private clinic for mental health in Europe.

Art, soul, or, in ancient Greek, psyche are terms directly linked to our emotional self or being. In recent years, the idea of integrating works of art into the clinic has resulted in a significant art collection.

The LIMES Art Collection focuses on colorful, contemporary works that radiate joie de vivre and beauty. The LIMES collection now includes more than 200 works by various international artists.

Taking part at the upcoming Discovery Art Fair in Frankfurt, LIMES Art Collection will present artworks by Merino Pacheco and Achim Ripperger, whose monumental public sculpture will welcome visitors at the entrance.

Joyous Semi-Abstractions by Merino Pacheco

Originally from Chile, Merino Pacheco lives and works in Germany. His works feature exuberant color and bold strokes, depicting stylized or abstracted contemporary urban vistas. Defined by contrast, his paintings possess a visual balance of a master ruling the canvas with copious chromaticism and solid composition. Pacheco’s goal is to convey “joy and humor,” which appeals to the viewer in a particularly positive way. Aware of the advantageous evocative effect his works may have, Pacheco donated a selection of his paintings to the LIMES Art Collection. Some of them have also been created at LIMES Studios.

Visitors of the Discovery Art Fair will have a unique opportunity to enjoy these rhapsodies of bursting color this November.

Contemplative Sculpture by Achim Ripperger

Artist and activist Achim Ripperger is not a new exhibitor at the Discovery Art Fair. He has exhibited at the Frankfurt event since 2018, presenting his contemplative work.

Sculpting in bronze and wood, Ripperger continues to explore the matters that make us human, spanning from the innermost reflections to the concepts we establish in society. His visual language is built between the tension of the carefully selected material and the often sensitive subject matter. While we can find strength and longevity in the wood and metal he shapes into voluminous forms, we’re also invited to examine their details and deeper meanings.

Even though his work transcends geographical barriers, the unique piece Ripperger will present at the Discovery Art Fair in Frankfurt 2024 is adorned with a stark local significance.

A Commemoration of Freedom – 75 Years

This year, Germany marks 75 years since the approval of the Constitution in Bonn. However, an event preceded the establishment of the modern foundational law and happened in Frankfurt. In May of 1848, liberal, radical democratic, and monarchist representatives gathered in Frankfurt’s St. Paul’s Church, Paulskirche, to agree on a liberal constitution and the unification of the German state. Since then, Paulskirche has been considered the “cradle of democracy” in Germany.

Inspired by the present celebration of the supreme democratic document and the idea behind the historical landmark of Paulskirche, Achim Ripperger created a 4-meter tall sculpture dedicated to democracy. “Uns blüht die Freiheit” or “Freedom Blossoms for Us” is the name of this monumental sculpture carved out of a massive trunk of a 75-year-old sequoia tree, making the essence of the work as old as the constitution that animates it.

The wooden sculpture represents a giant human figure holding a fragile, shimmering flower. Gilded with 24-carat gold leaf, this flower is the ultimate reminder of how precious and delicate freedom and democracy are, despite their powerful and profound impact and importance. It’s a reminder that we must always protect these values, never forgetting how easily they might perish.

The sculpture will be displayed outside at the Discovery Art Fair Frankfurt entrance from October 31 to November 3, 2024. As such, it will not only mark the anniversary of democracy in Germany but also open the door for public art at the Discovery Art Fair.
